Curriculum
At Oxford Grove, our bespoke, broad and balanced curriculum is designed to help all our children, whatever their background, to become happy, secure, creative and skilled individuals who can successfully pursue their personal paths to fulfilment with confidence and PRIDE.
We aspire to help our children discover their dreams and equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills and personal attributes to follow them with determination and resilience.
We seek to support the children’s ability to recognise and celebrate their own and each others’ high levels of effort and significant achievements across a wide variety of subjects and experiences, supporting them on a pathway of continuous growth and improvement.
We purposefully aim to develop children who have embraced our core values of respect, responsibility, loyalty and honesty as we believe these are crucial to securing the appropriate development of personal and academic skills and abilities that will lead our children to become successful, contributing members of our society.
Teaching
In order to secure our curriculum, our teaching approach is skilfully designed to:
- create an inclusive, happy, safe, nurturing and supportive environment which fosters positive mental health and stimulates the children’s innate curiosity, sustaining a permanent desire to learn, with an appreciation of the unique gifts and talents of both themselves and their peers
- expect, demand and secure impeccable standards of behaviour and conduct based on our fundamental moral values of respect, responsibility, honesty and loyalty
- foster a sense of ‘awe and wonder’ in the world, through our rich cultural capital opportunities, so that our children can define and achieve their dreams and ambitions for the future
- deliver a flexible, imaginative, broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which places English, maths, science, computing and technology at its core and provides children with the foundational knowledge and skills for living a successful life.
- apply our highest expectations of teaching and learning in all year groups, taking into account the most effective research based approaches to support all of our children to know more, remember more and apply more of our curriculum. These high expectations are linked explicitly and progressively to year group end points, in all subject areas
- inspire a love and appreciation of both individual and collaborative learning in the pursuit of knowledge and the application of skills
- ensure the school is a place grounded in the attitudes and values of tolerance, mutual respect and understanding, to enable our children to appreciate the importance of these within our school, the community we serve and the wider society
Achievement
Overall, our children leave us well prepared for the next stage of their learning and life, having acquired the key knowledge, skills and understanding across our bespoke curriculum, so that they can take their place within society as ambitious, confident, empowered and resilient individuals.
Children in our school, irrespective of their starting points, will make exceptional progress to achieve ambitious attainment outcomes in all curriculum areas, underpinned by the fundamental importance of foundational knowledge and skills in communication & language, reading, writing and maths.
Our children will develop strength of character that embraces tolerance and develops an understanding and appreciation of those with different beliefs, cultures and ethnicities, through our wider curriculum and our spiritual, moral, social and cultural education. These principles permeate all aspects of school life.
Our children will have a secure sense of PRIDE IN THEMSELVES, with the confidence to approach challenges and opportunities with resilience, determination and optimism, whilst they continue their journey to success and happiness.
